We are a registered Scottish charity and rely on our generous supporters and donations to assist in the delivery of our violence reduction programmes!
Every day in May at least one of us (15 Navigators and MAV) will walk, run, skip, cycle, dance or find some other way to travel 5K under our own steam. Normally at this time of year we would hold Recycle to raise funds for the Navigator's Running on Empty fund. This year because of COVID-19 we are unable to do that so we're doing this instead, individually but collectively, alone but together and at the same time getting our daily exercise.
Running on Empty is a really important resource for the Navigators. It allows them, at their own discretion, to provide a bit of extra help to someone in the worst of circumstances. That might be a hot meal, a change of clothes, a bed for the night, some money for gas or electricity or just a coffee and a long chat.
You can help us to make a real difference to someone’s life by donating whatever you can to our 5K Every Day in May appeal for Running on Empty. Every penny you donate will go to the people we support. So far we’ve raised £460-we are aiming to raise £2000. Please help if you can. Donate to 5K Every Day in May here
Siobhan Kyle, one of the Oral Surgery Associate Specialists at Glasgow Dental Hospital, completed her first marathon on the 29th September 2019, running the Berlin marathon in a great time of 3.55.40.
Siobhan has been a member of MAV since we were founded in 2008 and regularly visits schools in the Glasgow area. Her running career started with our first MAV run in 2015 and she now regularly competes in 10K and half marathons. Siobhan's marathon run raised a huge £1493.75 for MAV. Congratulations to Siobhan on her huge achievement and many thanks to everyone who sponsored her.
Five of Glasgow Royal Infirmary's Emergency Medicine Registrars took on their first triathlon challenge, competing in the 'Wee Beastie' at Loch Lomond in July 2019.
The event included a 400m open water swim, 9K cycle and concluded with a 3K run. Congratulations to Jen, Carole, Diane, Amy, Lizzie and Alice who raised £3334.60 for Navigator's Running on Empty fund. The Running on Empty fund allows the Navigators to provide crisis support to clients at times when no other help is available
The Oral Surgery Department and a few of their friends and family along with Tam from Navigator took to the dodgeball court at the 205 Field Hospital in Glasgow for a hotly contested dodgeball tournament with Emergency Department colleagues from Hairmyres, Monklands and St John's and staff from Acute Receiving at RIE and of course the Field Hospital themselves. £600 was raised and split between MAV and Alzheimers Scotland. Big thank you to St John's ED and the 205 Field Hospital for organising and hosting.
