Navigator

An initiative run  by Medics against Violence and our NHS partners helping to navigate individuals attending Emergency Departments to safer and healthier lives

Where we are working

Navigator has been active in Emergency Departments since 2015 and we are now operational in 9 Scottish Emergency Departments. We work in the hospital at the weekend, normally alongside our NHS partners on weekend nightshifts. We work in the surrounding communities during the week doing assertive outreach and supporting our service users with whatever they need help with.

Sometimes that can just be some company or a coffee to help people feel less isolated and distressed but more often than not we also help with practical things like housing issues, benefit claims and essential supplies like food. We then work towards supporting people to connect with our community partners who can provide expert help to address addiction, domestic abuse, sexual assault, violence and many more of those complex social issues that often bring people to the ED.

Our service is not bounded by time or geography and we will support people at their pace for as long as they need us.
