We were all delighted that Rachael and Gerry our Youth Navigators, working in the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, made it to the final of the Youthlink National Youth Work Awards in the Health and Wellbeing category. They lost out to very worthy winners the Scottish Huntington Association Youth Service at the glittering awards ceremony on the 12th June but are still winners to us. They did very well to get to the final three in what was a hotly contested awards round.
The service has supported over 300 young people since it started in late 2021 and has made a positive impact on the lives of many of them.
One young person supported by Rachael and Gerry said
‘I appreciate what you’ve both done for me giving me someone to talk to and someone who won’t invalidate my feelings and genuinely help me is something I’ve always wanted’
The service is also hugely valued by our NHS partners and they commented on the work Rachael and Gerry do
‘The first intervention is a relationship and that’s what they provide’
Everyone at Medics against Violence was cheering Rachael and Gerry on and we were delighted to be supported at the event by members of the board, the supervisor team and our NHS partners in the Royal Hospital for Children.
